Project Info
Opened in 1954, Mercado de Mafra served for decades as a space dedicated to traditional commerce. It became a central meeting point for the town, where local producers and the community connected on a daily basis.
The Challenge
Between 2021 and 2023, the market underwent a major redevelopment, both architecturally and in the way it positioned itself. The space evolved from a traditional market into a destination for gastronomy, events, and leisure. This transformation required a visual identity capable of supporting this shift while preserving its historical roots.
The Solution
The visual identity was designed as a bridge between past and present. A visual system that blends Mafra’s historical heritage, closely tied to the Portuguese monarchy, with a contemporary language. The logo draws inspiration from one of the market’s most distinctive architectural elements, the structural beams that support the roof. These beams were recovered from the original 1954 building after being removed in previous renovations. A symbol that represents continuity, memory, and renewal.
